Feds dismantle Whatcom County heroin, meth ring

A drug ring with alleged ties to a white supremacist prison gang has been busted up by state, federal and local law enforcement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said this morning.

Twelve people have been charged federally, including alleged ringleader Todd Hamilton, 34, and his girlfriend, Denali Wood, 23, both of Bellingham, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Members of the ring are accused of distributing methamphetamine and heroin throughout Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan counties.

Through a court-granted wiretap, authorities heard the suspects discuss drug deals and how they laundered money, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. During the investigation, authorities learned that Hamilton had a state Department of Corrections (DOC) officer help him obtain information. That officer, who has since resigned from DOC, has been charged as part of the conspiracy.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges that Hamilton is tied to an Aryan prison gang.

“This drug trafficking organization damaged many lives with the heroin and methamphetamine they spread in our communities,” U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said in the news release. “This conspiracy thrived on threats and violence, and used a corrupted former corrections officer to try to avoid arrest.”
