Fire Department responds to chemical spill at UW

The Seattle Fire Department is at the scene of a hazardous materials spill at the University of Washington’s Benson Hall,  the chemical engineering building.

The spill was reported at 5:44 p.m. According to Seattle fire, about 30 people were evacuated from the building. There were no injuries.

The spill occurred when two jars of chemicals fell to the floor. There was concern that if the chemicals mixed, they could be flammable.

Cleanup is now under way, according to the fire department.
