Justice again delayed for man who fled 16 years ago

Today’s sentencing for a man who fled King County 16 years ago rather than face jail for felony harassment has been postponed.

Robert Amos Garner, formerly of Tukwila, pleaded guilty in 1995 to attacking his then-wife with a box cutter. But before he was sentenced, Garner left the state despite facing only a month in jail.

Garner, 56, who now lives in San Diego, returned to King County last month to be be sentenced for the crime. The most he could face is three months in jail.

His current wife, Kathleen Garner, says her husband returned to be sentenced so he can later petition to restore his voting rights.

A new sentencing hearing for Garner could be set next week.
