Morning Memo/Wednesday: Fat folks on ferries … squealing on Santa … winter solstice

Weather: Let’s see, fog today until 10 a.m. or so, then clouds, then SUNNY. Same for tomorrow. But yeah, rain expected on Friday, but only a 30 percent chance. When’s Christmas? Will it be white? Not unless you count the clouds as white. And they’re gray anyway. The details.

Traffic: The map and the cams.

Too fat for the ferries? The Coast Guard says Americans are getting way too chubby, so they are changing the passenger capacities on ferries across the country, including our Puget Sound, according to a story by KOMO TV.

The average weight used to calculate ferry loads was 140 -160 pounds. However, the typical American now weights 180 pounds, folks. The change for ferry capacity is to accommodate we chubsters.

State ferry officials say not to worry. Our ferries rarely reach full capacity, so we probably won’t notice a change. Still, the new year is coming, and resolutions should abound, right?

It’s time to feed the beasts! Fish and fruity holiday wreaths will be tossed to critters at the Woodland Park Zoo between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. That’s always fun to watch.

A Santa suit and the Post Office: A postal carrier in Bellevue dresses in a Santa suit each year while he delivers the mail, but apparently a co-worker complained he violated the Postal Service’s dress code, according to a KING5 story. Well, duh. Does the word Grinch come to mind?

Today is the winter solstice; 9:30 p.m. to be exact. And tomorrow is the shortest day of the year. That is, the shortest time between sunrise and sunset. Yeah, like we can see the sun in December.
