'River Rat' robber, a Pierce Co. man, gets 26 years

The Associated Press

PORTLAND – A 34-year-old man who pleaded guilty to four “River Rat” bank robberies in Portland was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to 26 years in prison.

The U.S. attorney’s office says Alexey Perez-Hernandez of Bonney Lake, Pierce County, also will be sentenced in Washington in 14 robberies in King, Pierce and Clark counties.

The Oregonian reports he agreed to plead guilty to serve his state and federal sentences at the same time. He was arrested in 2009.

The FBI called the robber the River Rat for hitting banks on both sides of the Columbia River.

The Columbian reports the getaway driver, Travis Lee Oles of Portland, was sentenced in May in Clark County to 18 years in prison.
