Suspect sought in attempted rape of Burien girl

Burien police are searching for a young man who allegedly tried to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl in an apartment building.

The man approached the girl around 7 p.m. on Monday as she was taking out the garbage at an apartment complex in the 13700 block of 12th Avenue Southwest, claiming he was an apartment manager sent to check a hot-water tank in the girl’s apartment, according to Burien police.

Once inside, he tried to rape the girl until she yelled for her 9-year-old brother to call police. The man ran. “Detectives have been working all day on every avenue to try and identify this suspect,” Burien Police Chief Scott Kimerer said in a news release.

The suspect is described as between 16 and 22 years -old, with shaved or closely cropped hair.
