A sea otter pup was born this morning to Aniak, one of the Seattle Aquarium’s three resident northern otters. The unnamed pup is so fluffy that aquarium officials can’t yet tell whether it’s a male or a female.

The aquarium has been anxiously awaiting the water birth. Though the Seattle Aquarium was the first in the world to successfully breed northern sea otters, they have a 50-50 chance of a live birth.

Now the aquarium has a team of “otter watchers” to keep an eye on the mom and pup for the next four weeks.

The otter’s father, Adaa, has been temporarily moved to the Oregon Zoo in Portland to allow Aniak and the pup to bond, “as a precaution,” according to an aquarium news release.

Meanwhile, Aniak and her newborn are on display.
