Husky Stadium at the half

The last section of Husky Stadium’s south stands, upper center, is seen about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hours later, the stands were gone as work continues on a $250 million renovation. The north stands, in foreground, will remain. Excavation is to be finished by March, as the surface is lowered 4 feet. New south and west sections will be built closer to the new field, and construction of a football operations building is to begin in May. The stadium is to reopen in September 2013. A practice field and the softball stadium are at left. At upper right, near Montlake Boulevard Northeast, is the entrance to a light-rail tunnel that will connect to downtown.
