Seattle robbers busted thanks to cabbie camera

Smile, you’re on cabbie camera!

Seattle police have identified two men suspected of armed robbery after they were caught on taxicab surveillance camera robbing two cabbies earlier this month.

The first robbery occurred on Jan. 10 when a cab driver was robbed at gunpoint in the 1900 Block of Airport Way South, according to Seattle police.  A photograph of the robber, which had been taken by a surveillance camera in the cab, was distributed to officers and the public.

A suspect was identified by detectives, but was not immediately located.

On Jan. 14, another cab was robbed and carjacked in the 2000 block of Airport Way South.  Again, the robber was caught on camera, although he was not the same man responsible for the earlier robbery, police said.

On Monday, police arrested the suspect from the first robbery in South Seattle. While he was being interviewed detectives learned the second suspect was already in custody in Snohomish County on unrelated charges.

The suspect in the Jan. 10 robbery, a 44-year-old man, was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery.  The second suspect, a 35-year-old man, will be charged with robbery, police said.
