2 shot, in S. Seattle, a boy, 15, and an older male

Two people were shot in South Seattle this evening, a boy, 15, and an older male, 29, according to the Seattle Police Department.

In a posting on the police department’s blog, SPD Blotter, Detective Jeff Kappel said the boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center by Seattle Fire Department medics. After he’d been shot, the 15-year-old ran a short distance, then fell in the parking lot of a Safeway gas station, according to Lt. John Hayes, operations lieutenant for SPD’s South Precinct..

Fire Department Spokesman Kyle Moore said the boy was in serious condition, with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm. It’s not clear whether the wounds resulted from more than one shot, he said.

The second victim, who was shot in the back, was taken to Harborview by a private party. He had left the scene of the shooting before police arrived, according to Kappel’s blog post.

Officers searched, but the shooter or shooters remained at large, Kappel wrote.

A person of interest was taken into custody by Seattle Police a short time later according to KING-TV. His role in the incident was not clear.

The shooting was just after 5 p.m.  at Rainier Avenue South and South Fisher Place, Hayes said.

“There was a group of people hanging out, and some kind of argument started,” Hayes said. The gunshots were heard by several witnesses.

Police don’t know what the argument was about or what the relationship is between the shooter or shooters and the victims, he said.
