8 lives left for cat rescued from burning home

There is not points to locate on the map

A West Seattle cat is alive and well but down to eight lives after being rescued by firefighters during a house fire this morning.

The cat was unconscious when firefighters found her around 10:30 a.m. in a burning home in the 3800 block of 46th Avenue Southwest. Firefighters used a special pet oxygen mask to resuscitate the cat, according to Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore.

The cat has been transported to the animal hospital and is receiving additional treatment, Moore said.  One 16-year-old cat did not survive the heavy smoke inside the house.

Moore said the home’s occupant works in animal rescue and that there were 14 cats in the house.

Moore said a fire investigator determined the fire was started by a hot plate left near combustibles. The damage estimate is $60,000 to the home and $10,000 to the contents.

An animal rescue group will take care of the remaining 12 cats while the homeowner stays with friends, Moore said.
