Kent expects thousands at memorial for slain trooper

Trooper Tony Radulescu

Thousands of people are expected to attend a memorial in Kent on Thursday for a State Patrol trooper killed last week near Gorst, Kitsap County, Kent police said in a Monday news release.

Tony Radulescu will be honored at a public memorial service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, at Kent’s ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St.

Troopers, deputies and officers from both the United States and Canada are expected to attend, according to the release.

The city expects to close streets nearby between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will post specific street closures on the day of the event. The city advises those not attending to avoid the downtown area during the event.

The police department encourages those wishing to avoid the congestion to use South 212th Street or South 277th Street when crossing the Kent Valley on Thursday.

Radulescu was fatally shot while making a traffic stop.  Read the latest on the shooting here.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has ordered flags at all state agencies to fly at half-mast Thursday.
