Kmart worker shot in attempted robbery in Seattle

 From Staff Reporter Eric Pryne:

An employee at the Kmart store on Aurora Avenue North in Seattle was shot tonight during an attempted robbery, police said.

Police spokesman Mark Jamieson said the suspected robber entered the store in the 13200 block of Aurora around 9:15 p.m. carrying a gun, then grabbed the male employee and forced him toward the back of the store to open a safe.

There was a struggle and the employee was shot in the torso, Jamieson said.

The suspect and the employee then made their way to the front of the store, where a second employee called 911 and the suspect threatened to shoot him, Jamieson said. But by then, patrol and SWAT officers were arriving, and they took the suspect into custody at the front of the store.

The whole incident was over in just a few minutes, Jamieson said.

The wounded employee was taken to Harborview Medical Center, and Jamieson said he understood the man was in stable condition.
