Macy's employee stabbed by shoplifter in Puyallup

A loss prevention officer at the Puyallup Macy’s store was stabbed in the stomach last night after trying to catch two teens suspected of stealing merchandise.

According to Puyallup police, the 21-year-old officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by a 17-year-old boy just after 7 p.m. Two plainclothes police officers at the South Hill Mall on an unrelated investigation helped detain the University Place boy and held him for patrol officers, said Puyallup police Capt. Dave McDonald.

The boy was booked into Remann Hall, the Pierce County juvenile facility, for investigation of robbery and assault. An 18-year-old man who had allegedly also stolen from the store with the younger man was arrested as well, McDonald said.

The loss prevention officer, who was not identified by police, was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he underwent surgery last night, McDonald said.

When contacted this morning, the mall’s management office denied knowing about a stabbing.
