Charges filed in Jan. 3 Rainier Valley homicide

An 18-year-old Maple Valley man was charged today with first-degree murder in connection with the Jan. 3 shooting death of a woman in Seattle’s Rainier Valley.

Jacob Andrew Mommer and another man allegedly posed as marijuana buyers and lured the woman, Ashton Reyes, and her boyfriend to a Subway sandwich shop on Rainier Avenue South, according to charging documents filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.  Mommer got into the backseat of the couple’s vehicle and the boyfriend gave him some marijuana; Mommer’s alleged accomplice approached the vehicle, brandished a gun and demanded money, the papers say.

The boyfriend, identified only as J.R. in charging documents, gave the man Reyes’ purse and got out of the car; the unidentified gunman then fired twice, shooting J.R. in the buttocks and Reyes in the torso before fleeing with Mommer, charging papers say.

Reyes was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center about a half-hour after the shooting, the papers say.

Mommer, whose fingerprint was found on a door handle inside Reyes’ car, was tracked down by police using phone records, the papers say. He is being held in the King County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for March 1.
