A fire destroyed a home in North Seattle this morning, killing several pets.

Fire crews were called to a home on the corner of 4th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 95th Street, near the Crown Hill neighborhood, just after 9 a.m. for reports of a fire and smoke. Flames were shooting almost 20 feet into the air when firefighters arrived, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore.

Four of the five people who live in the home were inside when the fire broke out, but they got out safely. But two dogs did not survive. In addition, four pet ferrets are missing, Moore added.

“The house was a total loss,” Moore said, adding that a formal damage estimate was not available. The cause of the fire has not been released.
