Slide-damaged Bellevue road closed for 6-9 weeks

A section of West Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast damaged in a recent mudslide will likely remain closed until March or early April, Bellevue city officials say.

“Our crews plan to work as quickly as possible to reopen a roadway that is safe and stable for all,” said Dave Berg, Bellevue’s transportation director.

No one was hurt in the Jan. 22 mudslide, but four properties were damaged.

Berg said the estimated cost for the road construction work and repair of a broken water main is estimated at $500,000.

It has not been determined whether the water main break caused the mudslide or vice versa, but the city has acknowledged responsibility and will help owners restore their properties, Berg said. Those  costs are not yet known.

The current detour will remain in effect during the closure.
