Suspect in North Seattle police standoff arrested

The man who touched off a police standoff in Seattle earlier this week has been arrested.

The 26-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night when police caught him trying to sneak away from his apartment, scene of the earlier standoff. He has been booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

The man is suspected of robbing a cab driver early Tuesday morning outside his apartment in the 13700 block of Midvale Avenue North.

According to police, a cab driver drove a woman from Shoreline to the North Seattle apartment around 3:45 a.m. The cabbie said the woman refused to pay the $37 fare, so he held her jacket in an effort to get her to pay the fare.

The woman went inside the apartment and her boyfriend came out with a gun and pointed it at the cabbie. The boyfriend took the jacket, refused to pay the fare and returned to the apartment, police said.

Police SWAT team members surrounded the apartment believing the man was still inside. However, the apartment was searched around 10:30 a.m. and the man was not found inside.

The man’s girlfriend, 22, was taken into custody, according to police.
