UPDATE: Bellevue man suspected of killing wife to appear in court

UPDATE AT 2:16 P.M.: Bellevue police say the man killed his wife with a hatchet. The couple had been married for 46 years and had two children, who live in the greater Seattle area.

ORIGINAL POST: A 71-year-old man who walked into Bellevue police headquarters yesterday and said he had killed his wife is scheduled to make his first court appearance today.

“He said he killed his wife two days ago,” Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said last night. “He came and turned himself in. Detectives confirmed that and so they’ve been investigating it since (Friday) afternoon.”

The man reported the killing around 3 p.m., and police found the body of his 71-year-old wife in the home in the 100 block of 159th Avenue Southeast. He was booked into the King County Jail last night for investigation of homicide.

Iafrate declined to say how the woman was killed.

According to neighbors, the couple had a dispute two years ago that resulted in the wife filing a restraining order, Times news partner KING-TV is reporting. However, the dispute was later resolved.

At the time, she reportedly told neighbors to call 911 if they saw her husband come within 100 feet of the home, according to KING-TV.
