Cop stabbed at bus shelter out of hospital

A King County Sheriff’s sergeant stabbed at about 10:30 a.m. this morning after rousing a homeless man sleeping at a Wallingford bus shelter has been released from Harborview Medical Center and is doing well, the King County Sheriff’s Office said Friday afternoon.

Following a brief verbal exchange with the man, the sergeant, who works for the Transit Police, was stabbed twice: once in the shoulder and once in his hand. After being stabbed, he held the man at gunpoint until Seattle police arrived to take him into custody.

The incident took place at North 45th Street and Burke Avenue North in Wallingford. The sergeant is a 26-year-veteran of the King County Sheriff’s Office and has worked for the Transit Police for about 12 years, according to a news release.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes unit is investigating the incident, which was witnessed by several people. The office is asking anyone with more information to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.
