End of Metro free-ride zone focus of open house

King County Metro Transit will host an open house Thursday to help prepare bus riders for the elimination of the ride-free zone in downtown Seattle.

The open house will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St., Seattle.

With a few exceptions, bus riders will enter and pay through the front door, and exit in back, when the change occurs Sept. 29. Governments intend to provide some fare assistance for low-income people.

Metro predicts the end of the free-ride zone might raise $2 million more in annual fares.
