Forecast: Expect snow here and there, now and then

By the time you read this, chances are the flurries of snow in Seattle will have come and gone, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Johnny Burg.

“This thing is going to be over soon unless another little shower develops,” Burg said.

There were reports of 1 to 2 inches of snow on the ground at several locations in Pierce and Thurston counties on Tuesday. In addition, he said, the weather service received reports of 4 inches of snow in Enumclaw and Eatonville and one report of 7.5 inches at a  location east of Issaquah with an altitude of 1,375 feet above sea level.

While there could be rain and snow showers across the Puget Sound region overnight, there is not much accumulation expected except around the Hood Canal, Burg said. There, a winter storm watch is in effect and as much as 6 inches of snow could be on the ground by Wednesday morning.

Temperatures are expected to creep up on Wednesday, he said, and the precipitation will “all turn to rain by noon or later.”

By Wednesday night, he said temperatures should rise to about 40 degrees, and Thursday should be breezy and rainy, but warmer with a high near 50 degrees.
