Judge attacked, deputy shot in Grays Harbor Co. Courthouse

There is not points to locate on the map

MONTESANO, Grays Harbor County — The Grays Harbor County Courthouse is on lockdown after a sheriff’s deputy was shot and a judge was attacked.

Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott told KING-5 that a search is on for the suspect, a white male, who is believed to be armed and on foot.

Scott said it’s not believed the suspect was scheduled to be in court.

A woman who answered the phone at the Montesano Fire Department tearfully said that two people were transported to a local hospital. She said medics were dispatched to the courthouse at 12:10 p.m. The condition of the deputy and judge were not released.

“You have to call the police department,” the unidentified woman said emotionally.

The possible suspect in the incident was named Michael Thomas, with no age or address provided, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger. He was described as a male with short sandy-colored hair, wearing blue button-down shirt, black pants, and possibly carrying a black briefcase and a pistol.

The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and Montesano police confirmed there was an incident at the courthouse, but declined to provide details.

This is a developing story and we’ll provide more information as it comes in.
