Man arrested for allegedly trying to break into King County Jail

Seattle police have arrested a man for allegedly climbing a fence at the King County Jail last night in an apparent attempt to get inside the facility.

Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said that officers responded to the downtown Seattle jail, 500 5th Avenue, at 9:50 p.m. after being alerted about the break-in by the jail staff. When police arrived, they found the man in a secured area just beyond a fence.  Apparently the man had made several attempts to open a locked door, but he was unable to get inside.

“The male stated he knew where he was, but offered no explanation for climbing into the secure area,” Witt wrote in a news release.

The man was booked into the jail for investigation of criminal trespassing.
