UPDATE: Man found in water off West Seattle has died

Update| 8:20 a.m. A man who fell into the water while taking supplies to a sailboat off Lincoln Park in West Seattle late Monday has died, a Haborview Medical Center spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.

His identity was not released, but was believed to be in his mid-20s, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore,

Moore said the man had been using an inflatable raft to ferry supplies from the shore to an anchored sailboat, when the inflatable raft ripped shortly after 9:30 p.m.

Someone on the ferry dock heard his cries and called 9-1-1.

Moore said it’s believed that the victim, who was one of three people bringing supplies to the sailboat, was not wearing a life vest.

The man was in Puget Sound for about an hour, but people have been revived before after being found in very cold water, Moore said. The man was found 20 to 25 yards offshore, six feet underwater.

A Seattle Police Department boat, two small fire rescue boats with heat-sensing equipment, at least four divers, and a Coast Guard helicopter responded.
