Morning Memo/Thursday: Dumb burglars … Trooper memorial … Oscar winner

Weather: Lot of snow in north and northeast Snohomish County this morning. Here in the city, not so much, as in zip.  Scattered snow showers outside the city until about 10 a.m., but then we’ll have rain today. Rain likely Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Temps will be in the mid-30s and low 40s except on Sunday when it could reach as high as 53 degrees. We’ll take that. The National Weather Service forecasts.

Traffic: There are reports of icy spots in areas that had rain and snow showers yesterday in outlying areas of King and Snohomish counties and snow in much of Kitsap and Mason counties. The map and cams.

We love stupid criminals: If you haven’t seen the story about the burglars who were running from the cops after a burglary at a Bellevue home, please do. It appears they forgot that police can use dogs, which, in this case, sniffed out the bad guys hiding under leaves in a ravine.

Trooper memorial today: Thousands are expected to attend the memorial for slain Trooper Tony Radulescu in Kent this afternoon. See a map of the procession route.

Sound Transit service interrupted: Sound Transit says a mudslide blocks the railroad tracks just south of Everett. The agency says a 48-hour safety moratorium is taking effect Thursday morning for Sounder commuter trains between Seattle and Everett.

TJ Martin, the Oscar-winning director from Seattle, is scheduled to hold a news conference today to discuss his winning documentary “Undefeated.” The film, the true story of an inner-city high school football team in Memphis that tries to end the school’s legacy of losing and turns things around, is also expected to be screened.
