Police seek Lacey gunman; slain victim ID'ed

On Tuesday, Lacey police were still looking for a gunman who fatally shot one man and injured two others at a rental house in the 5900 block of Danials Loop Southeast just before 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock on Tuesday identified the man who was killed as 23-year-old Joshua W. Nelson. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Lacey police Cmdr. Jim Mack said the suspect is described as an African-American man in his mid-20s with a slender build. He was reportedly wearing a black hoodie at the time of the shooting.

Cmdr. Joseph Upton on Tuesday told The Olympian newspaper that police had contradictory information about a possible suspect’s initials or nickname and detectives were planning to conduct follow-up interviews with the surviving victims, who have been released from the hospital.

Nelson is a cousin to the two surviving victims, Upton told The Olympian. A man at the shooting scene on Monday told a Seattle Times reporter that two brothers lived with their cousin at the white house with green trim in the Lakepointe subdivision, near Lakepointe Park, where the shooting occurred.
