Sammamish caucuses going Romney’s way

Mitt Romney appears to be winning a strong victory among Republican voters on the Sammamish Plateau.

Although total numbers haven’t yet been tallied, many of the 52 precincts caucusing at Discovery Elementary School were going for Romney in landslide proportions.

Among those writing their preferences in the Brookshire precinct’s straw poll, nine supported Romney, while one preferred Rick Santorum and one went for Newt Gingrich.

“From what I’ve been hearing from people today, we want a nominee who can win. That’s the overwhelming sentiment of the Republicans I’ve talked to today,” said Terry LaBrue, a political consultant and chair for the Brookshire precinct.

Many other precincts also tilted heavily toward Romney, although although Precinct 05-0909 favored Paul, with 5 votes, followed by Gingrich with 2, Romney 1, and 1 undecided.

One Romney supporter said the candidate benefited from a large turnout of Mormons. Romney is a Mormon.
