Rescuers trying to revive man found underwater off Lincoln Park

Rescuers are performing aid CPR on a man who was found underwater  off Lincoln Park in West Seattle late Monday.

He was in Puget Sound for about an hour, but people have been revived before after being found in very cold water, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. The man was 20 to 25 yards offshore, six feet underwater.

Three people were taking supplies out to a sailboat anchored off the park. One man was in an inflatable boat, which ripped, said Moore.  At 9:37 p.m., someone on the ferry dock heard yelling from the water, and soon called 9-1-1.

A Seattle Police Department boat, two small fire rescue boats with heat-sensing equipment, at least four divers, and a Coast Guard helicopter responded.

It’s believed the man, in his mid-20s, was not wearing a life vest, was already submerged by the time responders arrived, Moore said. The man’s companions also went looking, from their rubber dinghies.

West Seattle Blog  has filed reports from the scene, and its readers said a ferry shone its spotlight to illuminate the area for rescuers.

A Washington State Ferries webcam showed a fire truck ladder extended for a time from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal over the water, which blocked vehicle access, but then the truck left around 10:20 p.m. and drivers were allowed back in the ferry queue.
