Woman hit by Metro bus in downtown Seattle

A 47-year-old woman was struck by a Metro bus in downtown Seattle Sunday afternoon — the third bus/pedestrian collision in the metro area in recent days.

Seattle police said the accident happened about 1:10 p.m., when an unidentified woman walking west on Pine Street at Third Avenue stepped into the path of a northbound bus.

She was crossing against the “Don’t Walk” signal, police said.

Bicycle-mounted police, who were nearby making a warrant arrest, rushed to check on the woman, who was conscious and alert but had a large laceration on the back of her head.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Two pedestrians were struck by Metro buses this past Thursday — one at the same intersection as Sunday’s accident.

In that case, police said, a 51-year-old woman stepped off the curb at 8:30 a.m. and was hit by a northbound bus. She was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview.

Police said at the time that the bus driver had the green light and the right of way.

That same night, 48-year-old Nancy J. Biladeau of Bellevue was killed when she was hit by the bus she had just exited. Bellevue police still are investigating that accident.
