Kent standoff ends peacefully when young suspect surrenders

A late afternoon standoff  with a suspect in a weekend shooting  ended peacefully when the 16-year-old surrendered,  Kent police said Thursday.

The youth, who is not being identified, had been the subject of a manhunt since a 19-year-old man was shot and seriously injured Saturday in Kent’s East Hill area, police reported.

Police obtained a warrant and set up surveillance on several local addresses, according to a news release. Thursday afternoon, officers spotted the suspect going into a home in the 24500 block of 104th Avenue Southeast. Officers surrounded the house and several other individuals who where inside came out when ordered by police. The suspect, however, remained inside for several hours as a SWAT team arrived and deployed. He eventually surrendered without incident.
