Morning Memo/Saturday: Arena deal fell through … More sunshine… Studded tire deadline soon

Weather: We’re not sure what’s on Mother Nature’s mind this week, but she seems to have swapped forecasts between California and Washington. While they’re coming out of a week of snow and hail, we’re headed for another weekend of sun. Enjoy it while it lasts — we’re back to rain on Monday.  The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: Keep in mind that Fairview Avenue is closed this weekend between between Mercer Street and Republican Street until 5 a.m. Monday. The Sounders and Mariners both play at home today, which could also cause traffic delays in Sodo.  The map and cams.

Sacramento arena deal unclear: Chris Hansen — the San Francisco hedge-fund manager who wants to build an arena for NBA and NHL teams in Seattle — might have a chance at acquiring the Sacramento Kings after all. The apparent deal stuck in February to build a new arena in Sacramento, supposedly securing the Kings to that city, fell through.

Studded tire deadline approaching: Time to stop procrastinating. While you’re putting the finishing touches on your taxes, don’t forget to also remove your studded tires. The Washington State Department of Transportation had extended the studded-tire season an extra two weeks due to the possibility of bad weather over the Easter holiday. The deadline for removal is April 16.

Mystery boy saves baby penguin: If you missed it yesterday, one of two Humboldt penguin chicks at the Woodland Park Zoo got a chance at life thanks to a mystery boy who spotted the egg on a ledge and told a zoo keeper. The zoo put it in the care of foster parents, who tended to it until it hatched. Zoo officials would like to invite the youngster for a look behind the scenes to meet the chick he saved and help give it a name — if only they could identify him. If you can help, email woodlandparkzoopr@zoo.org.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival events for today: If you decide to take advantage of the sunny weather for a trip to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (the tulips are now in full bloom!), today’s lineup of events includes the Anacortes spring wine tasting,  salmon barbecue from the Kiwanis, art shows, wildlife tours and much more. See the full list of events for details.
