Morning Memo/Wednesday: Child and dog abuse cases … a Toyota fan

Weather: Can’t seem to get a break from this gray, rainy weather. The chance of precip is 40, 50 and 70 percent today, tomorrow and Friday with temps in the mid to upper 50s, again. Weekend looks about the same, although TV says Sunday could be nice. Not by our chart, though.  The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

KING5 is reporting fire gutted a home on Queen Anne this morning. Details to come.

A Snohomish County judge has ruled that a woman accused of starving and beating her boyfriend’s younger sister is fit for trial, after state doctors determined Mary Mazalic can assist with her own defense. (AP)

Dog cruelty case: A Ferndale man could be charged with 100 counts of various animal cruelty and related crimes after more than 50 dogs were found living in squalid and inhumane conditions in a locked barn on his property. Authorities were notified by neighbors who complained about noise coming from Kenneth Cassells’ property.

Sexting in Castle Rock: A middle-school girl in Castle Rock reportedly sent inappropriate photos of herself to a boy from her cellphone, says The Daily News in Longview. The boy says he didn’t send them to anyone else. What we don’t get is that the exchanges were in the kids’ homes. Should the schools be involved? District says the incident will be treated as an “educational matter,” not a criminal one.

Close, but no … Mariners give up a big lead. Also, ex-Mariner Jamie Moyer, with the Colorado Rockies, is still going strong at age 49, becoming the oldest pitcher to win a game.

Wolf kill: Remember the Twisp man who pleaded to killing a wolf and attempting to send its pelt to Canada? His wife has now pleaded guilty to doing the same.

He likes their cars: We still like the story of the homeless man who spent the night in a new Toyota at a Burien dealership and got busted.
