A patient at Western State Hospital is dead after being stabbed in the ear with a pencil or pen, according to Lakewood Police.

Another  patient was arrested in connection with the slaying.

Staff at the state psychiatric hospital discovered the victim, a 28-year-old man, dead in another patient’s room Friday afternoon and called police, according to a news release. Staff found the resident of the room, a 40-year-old man patient, hiding in another room nearby. He was booked Friday night into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of murder.

A witness said the two men had been arguing earlier in the day about “unwanted behavior” from the victim, according to police.
