Seattle cops arrest suspect in attempted child luring

Early Wednesday, Seattle police arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with an attempted child-luring of a 14-year-old girl as she walked to school in South Seattle earlier this week.

The girl was walking on 42nd Avenue South near South Graham Street around 8:20 a.m. Monday when she saw a maroon van go by. The driver turned around and “made several comments of a sexual nature” to her, a police spokeswoman said. The girl ran to school and kept yelling “no” at the man, then phoned her mother, who contacted police.

The 14-year-old provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, including a partial license-plate number, which enabled investigators to locate the minivan and identify the suspect, police spokesman Mark Jamieson said Wednesday.

The girl then positively identified the suspect from a photo montage, he said.

The man was booked into the King County Jail on investigation of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
