Son of Pierce Co. sheriff’s spokesman charged with rape

The son of Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer has been charged with third-degree child rape and third-degree child molestation for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl, according to the News Tribune of Tacoma.

Zachary Thomas Troyer, 19, has been summoned to Pierce County Superior Court on May 10 to answer to the felony charges, the newspaper is reporting.

The case was investigated by Tacoma police and sent to the state Attorney General’s Office, which filed the charges Wednesday.

The girl allegedly let Zachary Troyer into her home on numerous occasions last month after her parents were asleep, court records show.

According to the News Tribune, Troyer issued the following statement:

“As foster parents we have raised seven kids through foster care, including Zach, who we got when he was 5 years old,” Troyer said. “All were taken out of abusive situations.

“Zach currently lives on his own. I would expect him to be treated the same as other 19-year-olds facing similar allegations of consensual sexual activity, and I’m confident the truth will come out.”
