SPD arrests woman suspected of punching, robbing man

Seattle police last night arrested a woman suspected of punching and robbing a man outside his apartment last month.

The victim was using an ATM at a bank in the 500 block of South Jackson Street just before 10 a.m. on March 19 when he was approached by a woman who asked for money. The man refused and walked back to his apartment in the 400 block of Maynard Avenue South, police said.

The woman followed the man and forced her way inside the alcove of the apartment building and confronted the man. She punched the man in the face and reached into his pocket and took $100, police said.

Seattle Fire Department medics treated the victim for facial injuries. He also sought additional treatment at a hospital, according to police.

Officers stopped and identified a possible suspect about 30 minutes after the robbery, but she wasn’t arrested because the victim couldn’t be located.

However, detectives obtained surveillance footage from the bank and created a bulletin with the suspect’s photo. The officer who stopped the suspect that morning identified her as the robber.

At 10:45 a.m. yesterday, the 32-year-old suspect was arrested at her home in the 300 block of Marion Street.  She was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
