Tacoma man killed in gunfight at overnight party

A Tacoma man was killed early Sunday after a gunfight broke out at a party, police said.

Tacoma police responded about 4:30 a.m. to the area of South 23rd Street and South Fawcett Avenue, not far from the University of Washington-Tacoma campus, after receiving calls reporting shots fired  and people and vehicles fleeing the area.

The victim was found with gunshot wounds in an alley west of 23rd and Fawcett. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, about three blocks away, but died shortly after arriving.

Based on interviews with several witnesses, Tacoma police said an argument had broken out among several party-goers in a nearby building. The argument escalated, leading to “numerous” shots being fired.

Police are continuing to investigate.
