The News Tribune: Elderly woman injured when purse taken in Tacoma

By Stacy Mulick
The News Tribune

Tacoma police are searching for a man who pushed a 90-year-old woman to the ground in a South End parking lot and stole her purse Tuesday, injuring her.

The woman’s “significant” injuries included head wounds, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. She remained hospitalized Wednesday.

According to Fulghum:

The woman had been shopping at Fred Meyer at 7250 Pacific Ave. Shortly after 5 p.m., she was pushing a cart toward her car when another vehicle pulled up nearby.

A man got out the passenger’s side and attacked the woman. He then returned to the vehicle, which sped out of the parking lot.

Investigators have reviewed surveillance video but were not able to glean a detailed description of the suspect. They think he is 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall but couldn’t tell much more.
