Woman injured in Sodo crash in serious condition

There is not points to locate on the map

An 18-year-old woman who was struck by a car in the Sodo neighborhood yesterday remains in serious condition in the intensive-care unit at Harborview Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Seattle police were called to the 1200 block of 4th Avenue South, under the Edgar Martinez Drive South overpass, just before 1 p.m. for a report of a collision involving a Subaru.

The Subaru driver, a man in his 60s, told police that a pedestrian “suddenly emerged” from behind a concrete column supporting the overpass, according to department spokesman Jeff Kappel. The man said that he was unable to stop his car in time to prevent striking the woman, Kappel wrote in a news release.

Police do not believe the Subaru driver was speeding or intoxicated, Kappel said.

Police initially reported that the victim had been on a bicycle. However, it turns out she had been on foot, police said.

Witnesses reported that the woman had a cell phone to her ear when she walked in front of the Subaru, police said.
