Bellevue names superintendent finalists

The Bellevue School Board announced three finalists for the superintendent’s job  late Saturday, and said it would conduct interviews this week.

The finalists are Alex Apostle, superintendent of Missoula County Public Schools in Montana; Mark Mitrovich, superintendent of Naperville Community Unit School District in suburban Chicago; and Justin (Tim) Wells, superintendent of North Clackamas School District near Portland.

Apostle will interview on Tuesday, Mitrovich on Wednesday and Mills on Thursday, Bellevue district spokeswoman Jacqueline Coe said.

For each candidate, the day-long interview process will include meetings with staff, board interviews and two community forums — a morning one from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., and an evening one from 6:30  to 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the forums will be held at the International School, 445 128th Ave. S.E. On Thursday, the forums will be at Interlake High School, 16245 NE 24th St.

The job came open Jan. 31, when current superintendent Amalia Cudeiro announced she was resigning to be with her ailing mother in California.

With an enrollment of about 18,500, the Bellevue school district is the 13th-largest in the state, according to data from the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Mitrovich and Mills both head districts with more than 17,000 students; Apostle’s district has 8,400 students.
