Bicyclist collides with a van on Capitol Hill this morning

A bicyclist was hospitalized this morning after colliding with a van in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Seattle police said the male cyclist was riding his 10-speed bicycle west on Pike Street around 6:30 a.m when he apparently ran into the side of a van that was heading south on Boren Avenue.  The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, said police spokesman Mark Jamieson.

According to Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore, the 20-year-old bicyclist was taken to Harborview Medical Center drifting in and out of consciousness. Police said the man suffered life-threatening injuries.

Seattle police closed down the intersection after the 6:20 a.m. crash; traffic delays extended into the morning commute.
