Mason County man missing in Olympic National Park

The Olympian

Crews have been searching Olympic National Park today for a solo hiker who was reported overdue two days ago.

According to a news release from the park:

David Snidder, 55 years old, of Union, Mason County, is thought to have planned to hike Monday along the Irely Lake Loop Trail.

Snidder’s vehicle was found Wednesday at the North Fork Campground. Snidder is described as a capable hiker with experience in mountainous and snowy terrain.

A “hasty” search began Wednesday. Eight searchers from Olympic National Park continued the search Thursday with the aid of a helicopter.

About 16 ground searchers, including eight technical-rescue team members from Olympic Mountain Rescue, a German shepherd with its handler and a helicopter were involved in the search Friday.

The search focused on area between Irely Lake and Reflection Lake, which is steep and rugged terrain.
