Shoreline man dies following stabbing

A Shoreline man who was stabbed in the chest Thursday — allegedly by his former girlfriend, who has since disappeared — has died.

A nursing supervisor at Harborview Medical Center, where Aaron Smith had been taken with critical injuries, confirmed Sunday that Smith was dead. She would not say when he died, except that it was before Sunday.

Smith’s ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Doreen Starrish, is a suspect in his death. Police say that after the stabbing Starrish left with the couple’s 7- and 3-year-old daughters, triggering an Amber Alert. The alert was lifted after the girls were found with a relative later Thursday, but Starrish has not been found.

Anyone who has information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office or call 911.
