Teen girl’s body found in burned Renton home

From The Associated Press:

Firefighters who put out a fire Friday morning at a Renton home found the body of a teenage girl inside.

Deputy Fire Chief Erik Wallgren says she was the only person in the house. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide, according to Times’ news partner KING-TV. Police say the girl’s 19-year-old ex-boyfriend is considered a person of interest, KING is reporting.

He has been identified as Jarod Lane.  Police are looking for a car he may be driving,  a 2001 green Mazda Protege, license 077-YRD.

Police spokeswoman Terri Vickers says the death is suspicious because of injuries to the 17-year-old girl, who was a student at nearby Lindbergh High School.

Vickers says the fire appears to be arson.

Wallgren says the fire was reported just before 8 a.m. with smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story home.

He says firefighters rescued a dog they found inside the house.
