3 arrested for robbing, spraying mace on 12-year-old girl

Seattle police have arrested three people suspected of robbing a 12-year-old girl and spraying her with chemical mace in South Seattle.

The girl was walking near 25th Avenue South and South Dawson Street at about 2:45 p.m. Monday when the suspects drove past her in a blue Honda and pulled over ahead of her. As the girl approached the Honda, a man and a woman got out and asked her for directions.

The girl gave the pair directions. As she started to walk away, one of them sprayed her in the back of the head and face with mace. One then grabbed the girl’s backpack, flung her to the ground and ordered her to hand over her cellphone.

The pair then jumped back in the Honda car and sped away.

Several witnesses called  911. Police pulled the suspects over at 46th Avenue South and South Othello Street and arrested them.

Police booked the suspects — two men, 20 and 22, and a 19-year-old woman — into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery. At the jail, the woman set off a metal detector because she had hidden a can of mace inside her bra, according to police.

The victim was not seriously injured, police said.
