Bainbridge Island man tries to suffocate wife with plastic wrap

A 29-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested this morning after he tried to suffocate his wife,  according to Bainbridge Island police.

Police responded the couple’s home around 8:40 a.m. in response to a 911 call. The officers walked in  through an open door and found the man sitting at the kitchen table.  He told police he had just put his hands over his wife’s mouth and nose, saying he “wanted to end it,” police said.

The officers found the man’s wife, 35, in the couple’s bedroom.

She told police she had been sleeping when she woke up because she couldn’t breathe, police said.  She realized her face had been covered with plastic wrap, which was being held by her husband.  Police said she struggled and fell to the floor, and was able to get the plastic off her face.

Her husband then climbed on top of her and tried to suffocate her with his hands, according to police.  She told officers she was close to passing out when her husband suddenly left the room.

The woman locked the bedroom door and called 911.

She was taken to a local medical center where she is recovering, police said.

Her husband was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault domestic violence and attempted second-degree murder.
