Fire in South Park causes $1 million in damage

Firefighters work the scene of a fire at American Plastic Manufacturing in Seattle's South Park neighborhood (Erika Schultz/The Seattle Times).

A fire inside a South Park manufacturing facility this morning caused at least $1 million worth of damage, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Fire crews were called to the commercial building in the 500 block of South Monroe Street at 9:36 a.m. for a report of the fire. A fire investigator “pinpointed the fire to an exhaust vent for the manufacturing floor,” said spokesman Kyle Moore.

Within 12 minutes firefighters knocked down the flames inside the building. It took 20 minutes to extinguish the flames on the roof, Moore said.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters leave the scene of the fire (Erika Schultz/The Seattle Times).
