It’s badminton for high school girls in the Lake Washington School District

After reviewing what sports it offers students at the high school level, the Lake Washington School District has decided to add girls’ badminton to the mix next spring.

The move is part Title IX compliance, the district says, and a response to girl’s interest in playing sports at the high school level, according to the district. The sport is now played at the junior high level in the district.

Of 782 high school girls who responded to a survey of what sports they were interested in, 166  indicated they would like to participate in badminton as a high school sport.

The district’s badminton teams will compete against other teams in the district and against teams from Mercer Island and Bellevue.
