Lewis-McChord soldier killed in Afghanistan

MIAMI — Officials say a soldier from Joint Base Lewis-McChord has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense reports that Spc. Gerardo Campos, 23, of Miami, died Saturday in Maiwand, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Campos was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
